Hosting a podcast on WordPress

Hello – Karen here from Podcast Training. If you are searching for a simple solution for creating a website which hosts audio and video podcasts, here’s a great solution using WordPress. First of all log on to the free WordPress website and enter a user name and password. Ideally choose a user name with key words which reflect your chosen subject or any company name. You will be sent a confirmation email and can log on immediately to start creating your blog-style website. Now follow this simple step-by-step guide:

1. Once you click through to the site, you will be taken to your own ‘Dashboard’ where you can Edit the first post that has already been created for you.

2. On the right hand side of the dashboard, click Update Post to see what your site looks like using the main template. Then personalise your site using an alternative template by clicking on the Appearance button on the left and add ‘widgets’ such as a search button and archive. Have a good play with the software and add links, tag clouds, categories and images etc. A guide can be found on the main WordPress website.

3. To add an audio podcast to your website,  you need to create your audio as an MP3 file. You can do this in a number of ways, eg by attaching a microphone to your computer to record or by using a portable MP3 recorder; if you wish to edit the file, I recommend you download the free Audacity software with Lame encoder. (If you’re not sure how to do any of this or what a podcast is, why not come on a training course run by podcast-training.co.uk!)
